EAST INDIA COMPANY

The Honourable East India Company (HEIC), often colloquially referred to as "John Company", and "Company Bahadur" in India, was an early joint-stock company (the Dutch East India Company was the first to issue public stock). It was granted an English Royal Charter by Elizabeth I on December 31, 1600, with the intention of favouring trade privileges in India. The Royal Charter effectively gave the newly created HEIC a 21 year monopoly on all trade in the East Indies. The Company transformed from a commercial trading venture to one that virtually ruled India as it acquired auxiliary governmental and military functions, until its dissolution in 1858 following the events of the Indian Rebellion of 1857.Based in London, the company presided over the later creation of the British Raj. In 1617, the Company was given trade rights by Jahangir the Mughal Emperor. One hundred years later, it was granted a royal dictate from Emperor Farrukhsiyar exempting the Company from the payment of custom duties in Bengal, giving it a decided commercial advantage in the Indian trade. A decisive victory by Sir Robert Clive at the Battle of Plassey in 1757 established the Company as a military as well as a commercial power. Eventually, ships belonging to the company arrived in India, docking at Surat, which was established as a trade transit point in 1608. In the next two years, it managed to build its first factory (as the trading posts were known) in the town of Machilipatnam on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. The high profits reported by the Company after landing in India (presumably owing to a reduction in overhead costs effected by the transit points), initially prompted King James I to grant subsidiary licenses to other trading companies in England. But, in 1609, he renewed the charter given to the Company for an indefinite period, including a clause which specified that the charter would cease to be in force if the trade turned unprofitable for three consecutive years. It managed to create strongholds in Surat (where a factory was built in 1612), Madras (1639), Bombay (1668) and Calcutta (1690). By 1647, the Company had 23 factories, each under the command of a 'factor' or master merchant, and 90 employees in India. The major factories became the walled forts of Fort William in Bengal, Fort St George in Madras and the Bombay Castle. In 1634, the Mughal emperor extended his hospitality to the English traders to the region of Bengal (and in 1717 completely waived customs duties for the trade). The company's mainstay businesses were by now in cotton, silk, indigo dye, saltpetre and tea. (COURTSEY-WIKIPEDIA)

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

Rain plays a role in the hydrologic cycle in which moisture from the oceans evaporates, condenses into drops, precipitates (falls) from the sky, and eventually returns to the ocean via rivers and streams to repeat the cycle again. The water vapor from plant respiration also contributes to the moisture in the atmosphere.(wikipedia).
I studied in my primary classes how the it rains.I also studied the poem "Rain rain go away".The little child wants to play .So it asked the rain to go away.I also repeated this when I was small child.During June,July and August every year it was raining in my place heavily. It was raining cats and dogs during July middle. It brought heavy floods.
Our school was in a thatched roof building. The cudgen leaves would fly away by the wind, that came before the rain. Now the classrooms are open."Mukalil akasam thazhe bhoomi"(sky above and land below).I feared the roaring thunder and lightning.Once the lightning struck on the coconut tree and got fire.My cousin brother got electric shock. He was bent .He has to be beaten with dry bamboo to be straightened. It was haunting me .So whenever there is thunderstorm
I fear.I chant Arjuna,Falguna ,Vijaya,Partha,Dhanunjaya,Kireedy,Vatsa. All names of the Hindu mythological Mahabharat's Hero of bow and arrow. When it rains ,the roaring thunder will stop.
Since we cannot go outside for play WE children singRain Rain go away. But Later when I became an engineer ,an irrigation engineer .I saw farmers of the border village of Palakkad ,Kozhinjampara. But it will not rain even when it rains all over the land called God's own country. I am going to tell the story about that.
It will continue to rain............

PAIN AND PLEASURE

PAIN AND PLEASURE are two emotion I experienced all through my life. The thought of this subject came to my mind when I was on the operation table in an hospital.I had undergone the tempoplastic surgery to stop the ozzing out of puzz from my year for several years.I was given anesthesia while the surgery was done.during that stage I had some vision and i remember My mind talking to me about Pain and pleasure.
It was suggested tome by my subconcious mind that I feekl pain during surgery because iam attached to body.Later recently I read that pain and pleasure are felt by brain centre.
When you injure your body you feel pain .When your desire is satisfied you experience pleasure.Mostly we connect pleasure with sex.But pleasure is achieved when you satisfy your sense organs. You enjoy hearing good music, eating tasty food, seeing beautiful scenes, feel comfort when the body iget good massage. The happiness or wellbeing feeling is pleasure. At the same time when you are injured you feel pain. When someone very close to your heart is departed you feel pain.Rejoining with our family members is a pleasurable experience and death is a painful experience.War brings death and devastation .It pains .So I donot want War.

WATER BUSINESS

WATER BUSINESS IS SEEN NOT AS A LOW RETURN UTILITY BUT AS A 'BLUE GOLD'.
Water is a limited precious resource. The demand is high.Water as a business is veryeffective when you look at the needs .One businessmsn told.Toney clerkthe auther of book Blue gold said"What's happening is that water itself is being carvedup and will be parceled out according to people who have the ability to pay."Business man says."Water when it flows in river has no value. But when it is purified and brought to your doorstep,it involves some expenditure. So water is priced"The worlds private water industries is dominated by just three corporations.Though most privatisation on water so far is in Asia,Africa and Latin America,They have plan to expand China and NorthAmerica. There is a news.Americans spent more money in bottled water than in ipodsor movie tickets say $15 billion!.I ask whose responsibility is it any way to give water to the thirsty people.Governments? Businessmens? OURS.

RIVER DIVIDES

As the river flows from higher elevetion to lower ,it divides the land in to two.The two sides are called Left bank and right bank. The water which flows in between them is a common property for both sides.During rain it flows full.During summer ,when there is no rain the river becomes dry .The quantity of water flowing in river will be very low. Water flows down and reaches sea .All the year water will not be available for the need of the people,so he learned to construct Dams and store water upstream and release through canals to lands, and irrigate fields.Food is grown in plenty to satisfy his hunger. The food was not equally available for all. Some had enough and more some didnot have even for one meal.Food grains became a commodity. Those have money could buy but not others who donot have. They starved.Food was used as a weapon. When people in poor country died of poverty.Richin, developed countries, ate a lot and became fat, fatter. When a majority died due to non availability of food, when they were weak due to malnutrician, few got ill health due to excess fat.
Mahatma told "We have got enough for our need but not for our greed".
For making money ,more money the cultivation of commercial crop took the major plots.
So food crops took the back stage and Cash crops took the lead.So the food was denied to the needy.CARE,PL480 and so many tactics were used to pressurise the developing countries. The rich became richer and poor became poorer ,as a smaall group held the produce and production materials .There was division .River valley projects helped a few. There started the rivalry .To own land ,to own water ,peoplefought..Ownership of land divided Land owners and landless .
Farmers and farm workers became the earlier employer employee of world.
When Industrialisation started there born the two classes.Workers and owners .
Indusry replacedAgriculture.Industrial revolution brought Capitalists, socialists, and communists.
War ,class war started. The working class fought for their right .8 hours work,8hours rest,8hours family time.
When industries produced goods .It has to be sold to fetch money. They were in search of Markets. Market became the fighting place for traders.Producers of same goods fought each other for capturing market. The trade war started.
